Town of New Castle NH

Originally called the Great Island, New Castle is an island located off of New Hampshire's Seacoast. It is the state's smallest town and the only town entirely located on an island. The main route to New Castle is the NH-1B from Portsmouth and Rye, NH. Look across the Piscataqua River, which flows out to the Atlantic Ocean, to see Kittery, Maine.

New Castle is a beautiful community with year round oceanside views and many historical landmarks. Spend summers on the water and enjoying one of its many scenic beaches. Some local landmarks and points of interest include the magnificent Wentworth-by-the-Sear Hotel & Spa, the iconic Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, the historic Fort Constitution, former military installation Fort Stark.

With three public schools, for grades K through 12, New Castle is a safe town that can be great for families. The schools that serve New Castle are the Maude H. Trefethen School (K-6), Rye Junior High School (7 & 8), and Portsmouth High School (9-12).
